FAQs
What is professional coaching:
The value of professional coaching lies in the ability of the coach to support a client(s) as they define their goal(s) and work toward achieving them. To deepen their learning, build self awareness, and enhance specific skills needed to reach their desired outcome. Coaching is a collaborative, client driven process that supports learning and growing but does not guarantee specific outcomes or replace therapy, consulting or mentorship.
Whats the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching focuses on visioning, success, the present and moving forward. Therapy emphasizes psychopathology, emotions and the past in order to understand the present. (ICF Referring a client to Therapy: A set of guidelines)
Coaching focuses on WHY - why you want to achieve certain goals, why you're stuck, and why change matters to you, then helps you move forward toward your potential. Therapy focuses on HOW - how past experiences shaped you, how symptoms developed, and how to heal from trauma or mental health conditions with a licensed professional.
Confidentiality - Ethics?
All coaching conversations are held in strict confidence according to International Coaching Federation (ICF) standards - information shared will not be disclosed to any third party without your written consent, except when required by law in cases of imminent harm. I follow ICF ethical guidelines which require me to maintain professional boundaries, avoid conflicts of interest, be transparent about my qualifications and coaching scope, and always act with integrity in service of your best interests.
Complimentary Session?
I offer a complimentary initial session to all first-time clients so we can explore your goals, discuss how coaching can help you achieve them, and determine if we're a good fit to work together. This no-obligation session allows you to experience my coaching approach and ask any questions before making a commitment to a coaching relationship.
What’s the structure of a coaching engagement?
Coaching engagements are typically structured as time-limited partnerships with most clients working together for 3-6 months, though the duration depends on your specific goals and desired outcomes as outlined in our coaching agreement. Following ICF standards, we'll regularly review your progress and mutually determine when you've achieved your objectives or are ready to continue your development independently.
